Technical fundamentals of computer science for computer engineers II lab

Content

This course is designed to provide students a first look into hardware design with a hardware description language called VHDL and its related workflow. Extending the course Technische Grundlagen der Informatik 1 - Digitale Systeme, the students should transfer their theoretical knowledge into manageable tasks.
The contents could be summarized as:

  • transfer logical functions into hardware
  • implementation of a simple processing unit with a hardware description language (VHDL)
  • simulation of digital circuits

Organisation

Registration:
The registration can be done in MOSES.

Tools:
Our network provides several tools. These are helpful as you work on your tasks given by the instructor. Further ModelSIM is used for simulation and synthesis.

Tasks:
The participants have to deal with several worksheets being released little by little as the course advances. More specific explanations for these worksheets will be given in the ISIS course itself. Besides these explanations everyone should acquire the needed background knowledge for themselves. Therefore the book "Schaltungsdesign mit VHDL" (Franzis Verlag) is used.
