Real-Time Implementation of Vision Algorithms on Embedded Hardware - Focus on Car Assistant System and Smart Road

Smart roads/vehicles are attracting attention in recent years to increase the safety on roads. Research in this area includes several topics including Car-to car communication, speed monitoring and tracking, driver assistant systems and more.

In this project, it is required to design several real-time embedded systems for several vision algorithms used driver assistant system, and smart roads.

Applications:

  • Eye gaze detection
  • Lane detection
  • Pedestrian Detection
  • Animal Detection
  • Car detection

All these applications share common features, and several algorithms can be found in the literature for each application.

Main tasks:

  1. Select the algorithm for each of these applications
  2. Investigate the implementation of such algorithm on reconfigurable hardware such as FPGA or on Graphics Processors (GPU)

Required Skills

C/C++, VHDL, FPGA, image processing/computer vision.

Desired Skills

OpenCV library is an addition, GPU Programming (CUDA- OpenCL) is an addition.
